Farage, Tice Sue U.K. Crime Agency Over Leak of Confidential Financial Data

Nigel Farage, leader of Britain’s right-wing populist Reform UK party, and deputy leader Richard Tice have sued the National Crime Agency, alleging it leaked confidential financial information to the media.

Bloomberg reported on August 7 that the two lawmakers filed a claim in the High Court seeking more than 25,000 pounds ($33,000) in damages from the NCA. In a post on X, Tice wrote that the agency had committed multiple offenses by leaking their confidential banking information to the press. The material included bank transaction records, transfer details and conversations with bank officials, he said.

The lawsuit comes as questions over Reform UK’s fundraising have intensified. The Guardian previously reported that several transactions linked to Farage and Tice were flagged to the NCA through suspicious activity reports filed by financial institutions. They included a 5 million-pound transaction involving crypto investor Christopher Harborne shortly before Farage was elected to Parliament in 2024.

The NCA said it had received complaints from Tice and Farage and that its Professional Standards Unit was investigating. Further comment would not be appropriate at this stage, it added.

Farage has been under investigation for months after it emerged that he failed to declare some large donations, including funds received from Harborne. Parliamentary authorities opened a related inquiry, but the process has been temporarily suspended while Farage stands in a by-election.
