SK Hynix is considering a sale of a stake in its semiconductor packaging plant in Chongqing, China, Bloomberg reported on August 7.

The company has been discussing several options for the operation of the Chongqing facility with advisers, according to the report.

A transaction could be worth about $3 billion if a stake sale is completed, Bloomberg said.

Potential buyers include Chinese funds and local semiconductor companies. SK Hynix could also retain a minority stake after a sale.

People familiar with the matter said the discussions are still at an early stage, and a deal may not be reached. SK Hynix declined to comment on Bloomberg's request for confirmation, the report said.

The Chongqing plant began mass production in July 2014. It is a key back-end base for SK Hynix in China, handling NAND flash packaging and testing.
