The U.S. military fired on a Panama-flagged vessel that was attempting to breach a blockade of an Iranian port, Walter Bloomberg reported.

The overseas breaking-news account said on August 11 that U.S. forces attacked the vessel after it ignored warnings and tried to break through the U.S. blockade of the Iranian port.

A U.S. military helicopter fired at the ship's rudder in the Gulf of Oman, sparking a fire on board. The blaze was later extinguished.

Maritime security firm Vanguard identified the vessel as the Vela Nova.

There were no casualties. All 17 crew members were safe.
