Pakistan, which has been mediating ceasefire talks between the US and Iran, has signaled the two sides are close to an agreement. Separate talks between Iran and Oman on resuming transit through the Strait of Hormuz are also showing positive signs.
Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said in an interview that the US and Iran were nearing "some sort of agreement," Bloomberg reported on August 11.
"The situation is again moving in a direction favorable to a peace accord or agreement," Asif said. Signals over the past two to three days show the two sides are on the verge of reaching an agreement in one form or another, he added.
Pakistan has been mediating ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also set to visit Tehran on August 11 to meet Iranian officials, Iran's state-run SNN news agency reported.
There were also signs of possible progress in negotiations over reopening transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
At a briefing on August 11, Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar's Foreign Ministry, said he had heard positive statements from both countries in recent days regarding talks between Iran and Oman and was looking forward to the outcome.
