NPS rebalancing enters its second month as fund buys $1.11 billion of SK Hynix

South Korea’s National Pension Service bought more SK Hynix shares than any other stock after resuming portfolio rebalancing, while SK Square was its biggest sell.

According to the Korea Exchange, pension funds were net buyers of $1.11 billion worth of SK Hynix shares from July 1 through August 14. The National Pension Service resumed rebalancing on July 1, and pension-fund trading compiled by the exchange is widely understood to be dominated by the NPS.

Pension funds also posted net purchases of SK Innovation worth $205 million, S-Oil at $153 million, Celltrion at $152 million, NAVER at $133 million, Samsung Biologics at $113 million, DB Insurance at $109 million, SK Telecom at $109 million and LG Electronics at $102 million.

Over the same period, pension funds were net sellers of $698 million worth of SK Square shares, the largest net sale among stocks tracked.

They also recorded net sales of Samsung Electronics worth $282 million, Samsung Electro-Mechanics at $238 million, LG Innotek at $127 million, Hyundai Motor at $118 million, Hyundai Mobis at $110 million, Samsung Life Insurance at $106 million, Hanwha Ocean at $91 million and Mirae Asset Securities at $81 million.
