South Korea’s Kospi reopened above the 7,100 mark on Aug. 18.
The benchmark index opened at 7,127.77, up 149.83 points, or 2.15%, from the previous session. It was the first time the Kospi traded above 7,100 intraday since July 23, when it reached a session high of 7,108.44.
Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc. helped lift the index after the memory-chip sector rallied overnight in New York. The two stocks opened regular trading up 3.10% and 6.02%, respectively.
