The US Defense Department is considering reducing American troop levels in the Persian Gulf after the war with Iran, Walter Bloomberg reported.

The Pentagon is reviewing a regional force realignment after repeated Iranian attacks exposed vulnerabilities at major US bases in the Gulf, the Aug. 18 report said.

Options under consideration include moving troops and assets westward to Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia instead of rebuilding damaged facilities in the Gulf.

No official decision has been made. Any permanent change to troop deployments would require approval from senior US administration officials.
