Optimism Reallocates 546.9 Million OP Tokens to Foundation Fund, Equal to 12.7% of Supply
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Optimism will reallocate $50 million worth of OP tokens previously reserved for user airdrops to an ecosystem fund managed by the foundation.
CoinDesk reported on Aug. 20 that Optimism governance approved a proposal to redesignate 546.9 million tokens set aside for user airdrops as a Strategic Ecosystem Fund. The amount equals 12.7% of Optimism’s total token supply.
Final support for the proposal was 61.84%. A vote from Test in Prod, Optimism’s core development team, flipped the outcome about 16 minutes before voting closed.
Without that team’s vote, support would have been 46.47%. The measure had met quorum, but it would have failed because it did not secure majority backing.
The Optimism Foundation said broad user airdrops do not align with its current institutional adoption strategy. It added that using the remaining tokens for institution-focused initiatives would help expand the Optimism mainnet and enterprise services.
The foundation plans to regularly disclose how the ecosystem fund is used through annual budget reports.
