Bank of Korea Appoints Kwon Min-soo as Senior Deputy Governor

The Bank of Korea said on Aug. 20 that it had appointed Kwon Min-soo, 56, its deputy governor in charge of international finance and cooperation, as senior deputy governor for a three-year term.
Kwon graduated from Whimoon High School and Yonsei University’s business school and joined the BOK in 1995. He previously served as head of the foreign-exchange market team in the International Department and chief of the bank’s reserve management group. He is considered one of the BOK’s leading experts on foreign exchange and international finance. As deputy governor, he led foreign-exchange market stabilization measures during periods of heightened volatility.
Kwon stands to play a central role in the government’s and the BOK’s push to internationalize the won. The central bank said his long-standing network with domestic financial institutions, major global investors and international organizations should help him represent South Korea’s position in the international financial community and strengthen the country’s standing.
