Iran has approved the passage of Iraqi tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Times of Israel, citing Iran’s state news agency IRNA, reported on Aug. 22 that Tehran had granted special permits to several Iraqi tankers to transit the strait.
The Iraqi government requested permission from Iran through multiple diplomatic channels, the report said. It added that Iraq sought special approval for its tankers during Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s visit to Iraq.
The number of Iraqi tankers granted the special permits and the specific transit schedule were not disclosed.
