Metaplanet CEO Says AI Era Could Make Bitcoin Scarcity More Valuable
Summary
- Simon Gerovich, CEO of Metaplanet, said the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) could make the scarcity of supply-capped Bitcoin stand out even more as production costs for goods and services fall.
- He emphasized that Bitcoin has a maximum supply of 21 million and said the cap is enforced by the network's own rules.
- Gerovich added that Bitcoin, which cannot be copied or diluted and can be used for payments anywhere in the world, is the scarcest asset worth owning in an age of abundance.

Simon Gerovich, chief executive officer of Metaplanet, said Bitcoin's scarcity could become more prominent as the spread of artificial intelligence lowers the cost of producing goods and services.
In a post on X on August 24, Gerovich wrote that he is often asked why he is so bullish on Bitcoin, and that the answer lies not in charts but in how AI is changing everything else.
AI is sharply reducing production costs and rapidly expanding supply across areas including software, content and analytics, he wrote. In a world where it becomes easier to produce more of almost anything, value will shift to things that cannot be increased no matter how much intelligence is applied.
Gerovich also highlighted Bitcoin's hard cap of 21 million tokens. The 21 million limit is not upheld by anyone's restraint, he wrote, but by the rules of the network itself.
He added that Bitcoin cannot be copied or diluted and can be used for payments anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. In an age of abundance, Bitcoin is the scarcest asset worth owning, he wrote.
