Jamieson Greer, the US trade representative, said talks with Canada collapsed because Ottawa sought additional concessions.

Greer told Walter Bloomberg, a market-news feed, on August 24 that "Canada wanted more" in explaining why the negotiations failed.

Canada had been offered the best possible access to the US market, he said, adding that political considerations on Canada's side also influenced the talks.

He also said there was "no issue at all" with moving ahead with US trade policy as planned.
