Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iran’s leadership is being rattled by tighter US economic sanctions, arguing that recent remarks about ending the war show the pressure is working.
Walter Bloomberg reported on August 25 that Bessent said the stepped-up US economic campaign against Iran is producing “signs of panic” among the country’s leaders.
Bessent cited recent comments from Iranian leaders calling for an end to the war as evidence that US sanctions are having an effect.
Iran has denied the US claim. Tehran says it has prepared for sanctions and that its main trading partners will continue to resist US pressure.
