US, Iran Said Near Ceasefire Deal Including Free Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

The US and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire and could formally announce it within days, according to a report. The proposed deal includes guarantees for free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and a resumption of talks between the two countries.

Walter Bloomberg reported on August 25, citing an Iranian military source, that the US and Iran had reached a ceasefire agreement and were preparing to announce it soon.

The ceasefire proposal includes provisions guaranteeing the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the report said. The two sides also agreed to resume negotiations under the "Islamabad Memorandum."

The US and Iranian governments have not officially confirmed a ceasefire agreement. Oman and Iran have separately proposed a temporary framework to restore normal shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz.
