Changpeng Zhao, the Binance co-founder known as CZ, said legal recognition of global decentralized exchange Hyperliquid in the US could significantly expand the decentralized finance industry.

Odaily and other outlets reported on August 26 that Zhao made the remarks at the 2026 Wyoming Blockchain Symposium in the US.

Earlier, President Donald Trump said Michael Cellik, a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, was pursuing ways to bring Hyperliquid into the US market.

If Hyperliquid is legalized in the US, that would open the door for more decentralized services to enter the country, not just perpetual futures, Zhao said. He added that US recognition of Hyperliquid would have a positive effect on the broader crypto industry.

Zhao also said that while some may see him as someone who supports only centralized exchanges because he holds a stake in Binance, his original reason for entering the crypto industry was his belief in decentralization.
