Nearly eight in 10 Americans view investing in digital assets through workplace retirement plans as risky, and more than half oppose employers offering crypto as an investment option, a new survey found.

Cointelegraph reported on August 26 that a survey by the National Institute on Retirement Security of 1,203 Americans age 25 and older found 77% of respondents consider crypto investments in retirement plans risky.

Among respondents, 46% described crypto investing as "very risky." Another 53% said they oppose employers offering crypto as an investment option in retirement plans.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order in August 2025 to expand access for 401(k) retirement plans to alternative assets including crypto. The U.S. Department of Labor proposed related rules in March 2026.
