About 60% of cryptocurrency platforms hacked since early 2025 had completed independent security audits before the breaches, CoinGecko said. The firm found that many of the attacks exploited vulnerabilities outside the scope of standard security reviews.

CoinGecko said Aug. 27 that roughly 60% of crypto platforms hit by attacks since early 2025 had already undergone independent audits by external firms.

Most of the attacks targeted weaknesses beyond the areas typically covered by conventional security audits. As a result, completing an audit in advance was not enough to eliminate all security risks.

The findings point to the need for ongoing management of a broad range of operational security risks, not just pre-launch audits of specific areas such as smart contracts.
