CoinGecko Says 60% of Hacked Crypto Platforms Had Security Audits Before Breaches
Forecast Trend Report by Period

About 60% of cryptocurrency platforms hacked since early last year had completed independent security audits before the breaches, according to CoinGecko. The company said many of the attacks targeted vulnerabilities outside the scope of standard security reviews.
CoinGecko said on Aug. 27 that about 60% of crypto platforms hit by attacks since early 2025 had already undergone independent audits by external organizations.
Most of the attacks exploited weaknesses that typically fall outside the areas covered by standard security audits, CoinGecko said. That means completing an audit in advance was not enough to eliminate all security risks.
The findings underscore the need for ongoing management of a broad range of security risks that can emerge during operations, in addition to pre-launch audits of specific areas such as smart contracts.
