LayerZero Says Zero Blockchain Can Process 5 Million Transactions a Second

LayerZero said its Layer 1 blockchain, Zero, can process as many as 5 million transactions per second.
Crypto Briefing reported on August 31 that Zero can handle more than 5 million transactions per second through horizontal scaling.
Rather than trying to maximize the speed of a single blockchain, Zero uses a structure that runs multiple independent transaction zones in parallel. Each zone can process as many as 2 million transactions per second, the company said.
LayerZero also split transaction execution from validation. High-performance hardware handles transaction processing, while validation uses zero-knowledge, or ZK, proofs so it can run on relatively lightweight equipment. The company said the cost per transaction is about $0.0001.
On August 25, LayerZero unveiled ATLAS, a transaction infrastructure built on the Zero blockchain. The company said ATLAS initially supports 200,000 transactions per second with latency of less than 1 millisecond.
Citadel Securities, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, Intercontinental Exchange and Google Cloud are listed as institutional partners for ATLAS. Tether's USDt0 also operates on the infrastructure.
LayerZero had been known as a cross-chain protocol connecting messaging and asset transfers across different blockchains, but this year it has expanded into building its own Layer 1 blockchain.
