U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said countries around the world should take steps to protect their trade sectors and manufacturing jobs in response to China’s expanding exports.
Walter Bloomberg reported on September 1 that Bessent said China’s exports are affecting not only the US, but also trade and manufacturing in other countries, underscoring the need for national-level responses.
Countries should protect domestic industries and manufacturing jobs to blunt the impact of rising exports of Chinese-made goods, he said.
He did not specify what measures countries should take or which industries should be targeted.
