Paul Atkins, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, said he expects the crypto market structure bill known as the Clarity Act to pass the Senate within the next two weeks.
In an interview with Fox Business on Sept. 2, Atkins said he expects the Senate to pass the Clarity Act within two weeks and send it to President Donald Trump for his signature.
The remarks appeared to point to the Senate’s scheduled vote on the Clarity Act on Sept. 15. As of Sept. 2, prediction market platform Kalshi put the odds of the bill becoming law this year at 49%.
Atkins called the Clarity Act “the most historic step in crypto regulation taken so far.” He added that he hopes the bill will be sent to Trump for his signature.
Industry participants say Bitcoin’s direction could hinge on whether the Senate passes the Clarity Act on Sept. 15. Passage of the bill would clarify standards for digital-asset trading and could boost institutional investor sentiment.
The Clarity Act passed the House in July last year and cleared the Senate Banking Committee in May this year. But it failed to advance in the Senate in early August.
