Polymarket, the prediction-market platform, has launched perpetual futures tied to oil, cryptocurrencies, stocks and commodities, broadening beyond event-outcome trading into derivatives and 24-hour markets.
Bloomberg reported on September 3 that Polymarket introduced perpetual futures contracts tracking Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate crude. It also rolled out perpetual futures tied to a range of assets, including cryptocurrencies, stocks, gold and silver.
Perpetual futures are derivatives that allow traders to keep positions open without a fixed expiration date. Polymarket's products trade 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offer leverage of up to 20 times.
The launch fleshes out the company's April plan to expand its derivatives business. At the time, Polymarket said it planned to introduce perpetual futures but did not disclose whether oil would be included.
Interest has been growing in oil products that can be traded when traditional futures markets are closed. Bloomberg said perpetual futures drew attention during the Iran war as a way to respond to price swings outside regular trading hours in the conventional oil futures market.
Rival Kalshi is also seeking to launch perpetual futures linked to WTI prices. The company is pursuing regulatory approval for the product, which would become the first oil perpetual future traded on a regulated US platform if approved.
Polymarket's perpetual futures are offered outside the US. For now, that sets up direct competition with global derivatives platforms such as Hyperliquid and Binance.
