Crypto project Unicoin has filed a trademark lawsuit against Uniswap Labs, the developer of decentralized exchange Uniswap.
Cointelegraph reported on September 9 that TransparentBusiness, the operator of Unicoin, filed the suit against Uniswap Labs in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 8.
In its complaint, Unicoin asked the court to declare that its UNICOIN mark does not infringe Uniswap trademarks including UNI, UNISWAP and UNICHAIN. It also sought cancellation of Uniswap's US registration for the UNI trademark.
The complaint said lawyers for Uniswap sent Unicoin three cease-and-desist letters between June and August. Uniswap alleged trademark infringement, trademark dilution and unfair competition, while warning of additional legal action.
Uniswap also demanded that Unicoin stop using trademarks containing "UNI," including UNICOIN, and transfer related domain names. It sought records of related revenue and profit, as well as reimbursement of legal costs.
Unicoin also asked the court to confirm that its domain names do not violate US federal law. The lawsuit amounts to a declaratory judgment action filed in response to Uniswap's legal demands.
