Selling in the US Treasury market spilled over into municipal bonds, sending the 10-year municipal bond yield up to 3.62%. That was the highest level since April 2025.

Walter Bloomberg reported on September 10 that rising US Treasury yields, increased municipal bond issuance and weaker reinvestment demand are weighing on the municipal bond market.

Investor outflows also widened. Municipal bond funds saw about $460 million in net outflows on September 9, the largest since April 2025.

Municipal bond yields are under upward pressure as weakness in the US Treasury market combines with supply-demand strains in munis.
