Kaia Adds Japan Wallet, Payment Network to Broaden Stablecoin Use

Kaia is expanding its stablecoin payment infrastructure in Japan, aiming to broaden real-world use by securing both a user wallet and an offline merchant network.
The Kaia DLT Foundation said on September 11 that HashPort Wallet, the non-custodial wallet operated by Japanese Web3 company HashPort, now officially supports the Kaia network. The wallet succeeded the official app for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai and has surpassed 1 million cumulative downloads.
Through the integration, users will be able to view and transfer Kaia, Kaia-based JPYC, Tether's USDT and non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.
Kaia also signed a memorandum of understanding the same day with Japanese payments company Netstars to introduce stablecoin payments. The two sides plan to integrate Kaia-based stablecoins such as USDT and JPYC into Netstars' multi-QR payment network StarPay, and later broaden support to stablecoins based on the Korean won, Hong Kong dollar and Taiwan dollar.
The companies are reviewing a structure that would allow merchants to keep using their existing terminals while receiving settlement in yen. Consumers would pay with stablecoins, while merchants would receive fiat settlement without taking on price volatility risk.
Sang-min Seo, chairman of the Kaia DLT Foundation, said Kaia would expand real-world use cases for stablecoins by building on Japan's wallet and merchant networks.
