Paul Atkins, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, said he will move to ensure greater regulatory clarity for digital assets regardless of whether the Clarity Act is passed.

On September 16, Atkins said the SEC would act decisively to provide regulatory certainty to the digital-asset industry and would continue that work even if the Clarity Act does not pass.

His remarks came as the Clarity Act failed to secure the 60 votes needed in the U.S. Senate to advance to floor consideration.

Atkins also stressed that, regardless of the legislative outcome, the SEC will continue efforts to clarify the regulatory framework for digital assets.
