President Donald Trump said the US should quickly cut interest rates to 1% or lower, shortly after the Federal Reserve raised rates.

Walter Bloomberg reported on September 16 that Trump called for US rates to be lowered to 1% or below, citing the country's strong creditworthiness and large-scale investment. He added: "Lower rates quickly."

Trump also criticized the US trade deficit. He argued that the US is effectively supporting much of the world and expressed dissatisfaction with the current trade structure.

The Fed raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 3.75% to 4.00% on the day. Trump's remarks stood in contrast to the central bank's policy direction, which calls for tighter monetary conditions to stabilize prices.
