Summary

  • ZetaChain said it is seeking to end operation of its own layer-1 and migrate to the Solana ecosystem.
  • If the governance proposal passes, ZETA will be converted 1:1 into a Solana-based SPL token, while keeping its name, ticker and total supply, with no additional issuance.
  • The company said it has restructured the system so users can deposit ZETA to use the private AI service Anuma, with ZETA token demand designed to grow alongside actual service usage.

Layer-1 blockchain ZetaChain is seeking to shut down its own network and migrate to the Solana ecosystem. The plan would also move its ZETA token and private artificial intelligence service Anuma, which has more than 300,000 users.

ZetaChain said on Sept. 18 that it had submitted a governance proposal to convert ZETA into a native Solana SPL token. Voting began on Sept. 17 and will run for 72 hours. The final decision will be made by ZETA holders.

If the proposal passes, existing ZETA will be converted one-for-one into a Solana-based token. The token’s name, ticker and total supply will remain unchanged, and no additional issuance is planned. The existing lockup and circulation schedule will also remain in place. ZETA circulating on Ethereum and BNB Chain will not be directly affected by the proposal.

ZetaChain plans to migrate the network itself rather than rely on a simple token bridge. Once users complete asset transfers, the existing ZetaChain layer-1 will be phased out. Solana validators would take over network validation, and the native SPL token would become ZETA’s main issued asset.

The company cited Solana’s fast processing speed and low costs as reasons for the move. AI agents need fast, inexpensive transactions to pull data in real time and pay for services. According to ZetaChain, Solana’s transaction finality is about 0.4 seconds and its median transaction fee is about $0.001.

ZETA’s role would also be reorganized around the AI ecosystem. Users would deposit ZETA to receive credits for Anuma’s AI services. ZetaChain also plans to extend the same structure to other Solana-based AI applications and agents, using ZETA as a shared access token.

"As applications increase, user activity and AI activity will grow, expanding ZETA’s use cases," ZetaChain said. "Token demand will be designed to grow alongside actual service usage."
