Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang dismissed predictions that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity and rejected arguments that such risks justify slowing the pace of development.

In a CBS interview on Sept. 20, Huang said there was a “0%” chance the world would end by 2030, adding that excessive fear surrounding AI is not based on scientific evidence. He also criticized efforts to magnify AI risks in ways that heighten public anxiety.

Silicon Valley has recently seen growing calls to rein in the pace of AI development over concerns that increasingly advanced systems could escape human control. Some researchers argue that safeguards, including external audits, are needed, citing the possibility that AI could replicate itself or obtain additional computing resources.

Huang also opposed creating a separate regulatory framework specifically for AI. He said existing US laws, including product liability and cybersecurity rules, can already hold AI companies accountable. He added that the process of building a new regulatory regime should not end up weakening corporate responsibility under current law.

He did not, however, downplay AI safety itself. Huang said development should move as quickly as possible, but products that are not adequately prepared or proven safe should not be brought to market.

Nvidia’s market capitalization has risen to about $5.3 trillion as demand for AI semiconductors has expanded. Huang said the speed of AI adoption is directly tied to the company’s growth, while adding that safe products and services are also necessary for the industry’s long-term expansion.
