Dunamu said on Sept. 22 that it will hold the Upbit Institutional Summit, or UIS, on Sept. 29 at Grand Walkerhill Seoul in Seoul's Gwangjin District. The invitation-only event will bring together policymakers, institutional investors, financial companies, and officials from digital-asset and technology firms.
Dunamu organized the event as digital-asset regulatory frameworks become more defined across jurisdictions and traditional financial companies expand their presence in the market. It plans to develop UIS into a regular event where leaders from global policy, finance and industry discuss major changes in digital finance and the market outlook.
Speakers will include former Commodity Futures Trading Commission Commissioner Brian Quintenz, former White House Presidential Digital Asset Advisory Council Deputy Director Harry Jung, and MoonPay Chief Legal and Administrative Officer Caroline Pham. Pham previously served as acting chair of the CFTC.
Also participating from Europe is Peter Kerstens, adviser on fintech and cybersecurity at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union. Other speakers include Johann Kerbrat, general manager of Robinhood Crypto and vice president of global business at Robinhood; Sheila Warren, chair of the Advanced AI Society; Trevor Traina, chief business officer at Tools for Humanity; and Will Pappper, head of agent payments products at Cloudflare.
The event will cover global digital-asset regulation, changes in market structure, asset tokenization, institutional participation in the market, and regulatory trends in major Asian countries. It will also address finance's shift on-chain and the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain.
A panel on the on-chain transition of South Korea's financial industry will also be held. Lee Jong-sub, a professor at Seoul National University's business school, will moderate the discussion. Participants will include Choi Won-seok, Dunamu's head of global business; Eom Tae-sung, managing director at Hana Financial Group; Ahn In-seong, senior vice president at Hanwha Investment & Securities; and Hwang Sung-won, chief digital platform officer at Samsung Financial Networks.
The panel will discuss changes at traditional financial companies such as banks and securities firms, as well as the potential of on-chain finance.
Chief Executive Officer Lee said the event was arranged to share experience from different markets as the digital-asset industry undergoes institutionalization and broader participation by institutional investors. He added that he hopes it will serve as an opportunity to connect South Korea's digital-asset market with the global market.
