Cointelegraph reported on September 24 that the foundation appointed Conlan as chief strategy officer and Rice as head of payments.
As CSO, Conlan will oversee strategy for institutional partnerships, ecosystem growth and enterprise adoption of Solana. Rice will work to expand cooperation between the Solana Foundation and global payments companies, while supporting infrastructure development for businesses building Solana-based payment services.
The hires appear to be a follow-up to the Solana Developer Platform launched in March. Mastercard and Western Union were among the platform's initial users.
Separately, Solana is preparing Alpenglow, a network upgrade aimed at shortening transaction finality times. Once implemented, the upgrade would reduce finality to 150 milliseconds from about 12.8 seconds.
