Walter Bloomberg reported on Sept. 29 that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with the U.S. are continuing under mediation by Qatar and Pakistan. Iran has passed its proposal and conditions to the U.S. through Qatari mediators and is awaiting Washington's final position. Reuters also reported that Araghchi said mediators had not yet conveyed the U.S.'s formal final position to him.
Araghchi also emphasized that Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remain unchanged. Iran had previously proposed reopening the waterway and continuing negotiations if certain conditions were met.
Qatar and Pakistan are mediating an agreement that could revive the existing Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU, between the two sides. It remains unclear, however, how much progress has been made in the talks, leaving open the possibility of a prolonged stalemate.
