Bitcoin Posts 42.7% Third-Quarter Return, Highest in Nine Years

Bitcoin's price gain in the third quarter reached its highest level in nine years.
According to CoinGlass data on Oct. 1, Bitcoin posted a 42.71% return in the third quarter. That was the strongest third-quarter performance since 2017, when it rose 80.41%, and nearly seven times the 6.31% return recorded a year earlier.
August's 24.95% gain accounted for most of the quarter's advance. Bitcoin rose 7.36% in July and 6.33% in September.

Ethereum posted a 70.8% price gain in the third quarter. On a monthly basis, it rose 18.5% in July, 32.53% in August and 8.77% in September.
Meanwhile, according to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin was trading in the $84,000 range as of Oct. 1. Ethereum was trading in the $2,700 range.
