The US Energy Information Administration said on October 6 that power consumption is forecast to rise to 4.356 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2027 from 4.195 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2025.
Growing electricity use by AI and cryptocurrency data centers is expected to contribute to the increase in power demand.
By energy source, renewables are projected to account for 27% of electricity generation by 2027, while coal's share is forecast to fall to 15%.
