President Donald Trump announced on October 11 that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire" to stop attacks on energy facilities.
In a social media post, Trump said an energy ceasefire had been reached in the Russia-Ukraine war and would take effect immediately. He added that both sides had agreed and urged them not to violate it.
But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told Axios he was hearing about it for the first time. He said Ukraine would agree to the energy ceasefire if Russia also agreed. Russia has not issued a specific response.
Whether the ceasefire takes hold will depend on Russia's clear consent and an actual halt to attacks. Russian forces also attacked a combined heat and power plant in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, that day.
