MOA Protocol, a developer of blockchain-based financial and payment services, said on Oct. 15 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Medical Tourism Promotion Association, or KMTPA, on Sept. 29.

Under the agreement, the two sides will work to link MOA Card with South Korea’s medical tourism network and improve convenience for overseas visitors using medical services and making payments in the country.

They are also exploring ways to connect MOA Card users with a range of medical services in the association’s network, including plastic surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology and dentistry. The two sides plan to review dedicated benefits and preferential services for card users in consultation with participating medical institutions. Specific benefits and eligibility terms will be decided through future discussions.

The Korea Medical Tourism Promotion Association runs medical tourism-related businesses through its network of medical institutions. Its medical concierge brand, MEDICON, connects medical staff with overseas customers and provides guidance and support throughout the medical service process.

MOA Card currently operates as a web-based service. MOA Protocol plans to launch a mobile app in December and introduce a new card with enhanced partner benefits. Through the agreement, the company also aims to broaden its cooperation base with medical institutions while exploring ways to expand service usage by linking those efforts with its existing partnerships in the hotel and lifestyle sectors. Its goal is to create an environment in which overseas customers can use medical services in South Korea and make everyday payments more conveniently.

Leo, chief operating officer of MOA Protocol, said the agreement would mark an important step in connecting MOA Card’s payment service with South Korea’s medical tourism sector. He added that the company would work with domestic medical institutions and various partners to improve payment convenience for overseas customers and expand the card’s everyday utility, including for medical services.

Kim Jin-guk, chairman of the Korea Medical Tourism Promotion Association, said he hopes the agreement will provide a new foundation for linking South Korea’s medical services with digital payment services. He said the two sides will cooperate to improve overseas customers’ access to medical services and ease of use based on the association’s network of medical institutions and MOA Card’s services.

Separately, MOA Protocol is developing services that connect digital-asset management with real-world use, centered on MOA-Fi, its decentralized finance platform, MOA Card, which supports the use of digital assets for payments, and MOA Swap, its token swap service.
