Parataxis Ethereum, a Kosdaq-listed company, plans to begin staking Ether as early as this year. The company aims to generate additional returns from its holdings using more than 10,000 Ether it expects to have secured by no later than the first half of next year.

Chief Executive Officer Lee Myung-hoon told Bloomingbit in an interview on Oct. 16 that the company’s top priority for the second half is staking the Ether it holds. It is reviewing the legal and accounting requirements for staking. The process has been underway for quite some time. For now, the company is focused on buying and managing Ether while creating a virtuous cycle between its existing business and its digital asset treasury, or DAT, strategy.

Parataxis Ethereum became the first listed South Korean company to adopt an Ether-based DAT strategy earlier this year. It has bought more than 10,000 Ether this year alone, making it the largest Ether holder among DAT companies in Asia. According to CoinGecko and other sources, the company held about 11,730 Ether as of Oct. 16, ranking 11th among publicly listed companies globally.

"Operating Strategy to Be Detailed by First Half of Next Year"

Parataxis Ethereum is considering building its own infrastructure for the staking business. Lee said the company is also weighing partnerships with outside firms, taking into account the risks of directly custodying and operating the assets. It is reviewing both domestic and overseas providers.

He did not specify how much of the holdings would be staked. As a listed company, it must first meet legal and audit standards before deciding the staking allocation. The company plans to flesh out its strategy for managing treasury assets, including staking, by the first half of next year.

Lee cited cash flow from the company’s existing business as a key differentiator from other DAT companies. Parataxis Ethereum posted about $10.1 million in revenue last year from its database security business. Because that business is not tied to crypto-market cycles, it provides the financial stability needed to pursue the DAT strategy over the long term.

Staking yield is not the only reason the company chose Ether as a strategic asset. Lee said he also sees strong growth potential in the Ethereum blockchain itself. Ether can generate additional operating returns while also developing into infrastructure for the future of finance. From a long-term perspective, he said, Ether is still in the early stages of its broader growth trajectory.

"Potential Synergies With Database Security Business"

Parataxis Ethereum also sees potential for its DAT strategy to create synergies with its security business. The company said the expertise it has built in serving institutional clients and managing system stability could be extended into digital-asset security, internal controls and risk management.

Lee said demand for regulatory compliance, identity verification and auditability will continue to grow in an institution-led crypto market. The company believes its technology and client trust in data security and identity management could help it secure a clear first-mover advantage in a market where standards and infrastructure have yet to be established.

Lee also referred to potential use by domestic institutions. For institutions that face restrictions on direct crypto investment, Parataxis Ethereum could provide Ether exposure through a Kosdaq-listed company. The company is sharing the significance of its DAT strategy and Ether’s potential with South Korean financial institutions, though it is not yet ready to announce specific partnerships.

Lee also commented on the withdrawal of a proposed merger with Parataxis Korea. Parataxis Ethereum disclosed on Oct. 6 that it would withdraw its merger plan with Parataxis Korea. After reviewing the conditions for proceeding, including outside legal advice, the company decided to scrap the deal in consideration of shareholder interests. Under current conditions, he said, the move is not a temporary suspension with a future relaunch assumed.
