Summary

  • Fidelity Center for Applied Technology, or FCAT, said Solana has made substantial progress in stability, economic security and performance after operating without a mainnet outage for the past two years.
  • High staking participation, its incentive structure, low latency, expanded throughput and low transaction costs were cited as strengths that enable large-scale real-world use.
  • The report added, however, that concentration in staked tokens among some validators and operators, as well as in server infrastructure, requires continued monitoring from the standpoint of network decentralization and resilience.

Solana's network has run without a mainnet outage for the past two years, underscoring improved stability, though concentration in validator stake and server infrastructure still warrants close monitoring, according to an analysis.

Cointelegraph reported on October 17 that Fidelity Center for Applied Technology, or FCAT, said in a recent report that Solana had made substantial progress in network resilience, economic security and performance.

The report said Solana had not recorded a mainnet outage over the past two years. It added that high staking participation and an incentive structure that rewards validator performance support the network's economic security.

Low latency, expanded throughput and low transaction costs were also cited as strengths that enable large-scale real-world use.

At the same time, the report said concentration of staked tokens among some validators and operators, along with concentration in server hosting and node software, requires continued monitoring from the standpoint of network decentralization and resilience.

Solana in August shortened the interval between block production to 350 milliseconds from its previous level. The Solana Foundation is also pursuing a plan to lower that to 200 milliseconds, with three additional reductions of 50 milliseconds each.
