Drift Hacker Launders $61 Million in Ethereum Through Tornado Cash
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Some of the funds stolen in the hack of Solana-based decentralized exchange Drift have been moved to a cryptocurrency mixer.
A wallet linked to the Drift hack sent 25,700 Ether, worth about $61 million, to Tornado Cash, Cointelegraph reported on Oct. 20. On-chain analytics platform Lookonchain said the wallet had been dormant for two months before depositing the funds over about two hours. Tornado Cash is a mixer service that blends funds from multiple addresses, making transactions harder to trace.
On-chain analytics platform Arkham said the attacker's wallet still holds about 81,454 Ether worth roughly $194 million.
Drift suffered about $295 million in losses in an April 1 hack. The exchange said in June that a forensic investigation by cybersecurity firm Mandiant found the attack was carried out by UNC6862, a threat group linked to North Korea.
Drift began claims and reimbursement procedures for affected users under its DFX recovery token on Oct. 1. The recovery pool started at about $3.1 million, with exchange revenue and any future recovered funds set to continue flowing into it.
According to on-chain data platform DefiLlama, the Drift hack was the third-largest cryptocurrency hack of 2026. Other major hacks that year included Bitget's $387 million loss and Liquid Network's $320 million loss.
