Hanwha Investment & Securities is moving to build financial infrastructure that would allow real-world assets to be issued and traded on blockchain networks and used as collateral.

The company said on October 30 that it had entered into a strategic partnership with blockchain infrastructure firm Chainlink. The two sides will form a working group to flesh out ways to connect on-chain services for institutional investors with asset custody systems.

The partnership will focus on verifying financial data and improving interoperability across blockchains. Hanwha Investment & Securities plans to apply Chainlink’s data-standard technology and its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, or CCIP, to the digital-asset platform it is developing.

The data-standard technology is designed to pull in and verify off-chain information, including prices, interest rates and reserves. CCIP connects different blockchains so they can exchange assets and information. Hanwha said this should reduce the burden of building separate integration systems for each blockchain.

The companies also plan to set standards for using tokenized real-world assets, or RWAs, as collateral. They will refine procedures for assessing asset values and checking reserve levels, while also pursuing regulatory compliance and technical standards tailored to South Korea’s tokenized securities framework.

Ahn In-seong, vice president of Hanwha Investment & Securities’ digital division, described Chainlink as a core partner in advancing asset tokenization, global distribution and collateral use. He said the two companies aim to combine their technological and financial capabilities to help build an RWA market linking domestic and overseas markets.
