Oh Se-jin, chief executive of DigitalX, the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange formerly known as Korbit and acquired by Mirae Asset Group, has expressed his intention to resign, according to a media report.
The Fact reported on November 2 that Oh recently informed the company of his plan to step down for personal reasons. He joined Korbit in 2019 and became chief executive in January 2020. He was reappointed three times, and his term had originally been set to run through the end of 2028.
Oh's move is drawing attention because it came after Mirae Asset Group's acquisition of DigitalX. In July, Mirae Asset Group acquired about 97% of Korbit through Mirae Asset Consulting for 141.4 billion won, or about $102 million.
The company later pursued a 50 billion won, or about $36.2 million, capital increase and changed both its corporate name and exchange service name to DigitalX.
Industry participants have raised the possibility that the next chief executive could come from Mirae Asset Group. There is also speculation that the appointment could be accompanied by a broader organizational overhaul, including changes to senior management.
