Securitize Japan, the Japanese unit of real-world asset platform Securitize, was hacked, exposing customer information at Sony Bank.

Sony Bank said Nov. 4 that an external intrusion at Securitize Japan, its contractor for digital securities operations, led to the leak of data on 621 customers. Securitize Japan is Securitize's Japanese subsidiary.

Securitize Japan detected a system anomaly on Oct. 29 and began investigating. It confirmed unauthorized external access the same day and notified Sony Bank. A subsequent probe found that customer information had been exposed.

For four affected customers, the leaked data included names, addresses, dates of birth and account numbers. For the other 617, only names were exposed.

Sony Bank said no fraudulent transactions tied to the incident have been identified so far.

The breach was limited to an outsourced system related to digital securities, according to Sony Bank. The bank has temporarily suspended digital securities trading following the incident.
