Dunamu Proposes Crypto Inheritance Overhaul to Protect Deceased Users’ Accounts, Enable Integrated Asset Lookup
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, is proposing changes to South Korea’s inheritance system to help protect digital assets held by deceased users more quickly and allow heirs to check holdings in one place. The proposal is intended to address difficulties exchanges face in identifying a user’s death and the burden on heirs, who currently must contact each exchange separately to verify assets.
Dunamu said on November 5 that it will participate in the 2026 National Assembly Legislative Expo, to be held November 5-6 at the Central Lawn Plaza of the National Assembly, where it will present a plan for an integrated protection system for inherited virtual assets.
A key proposal is to swiftly restrict trading in accounts held in the names of deceased users. Exchanges currently have difficulty confirming whether a user has died until an heir files a separate report, creating potential gaps in protecting inherited assets.
Dunamu is also proposing that virtual assets be added to the scope of integrated inheritance-asset inquiries. Financial assets, land, vehicles, taxes and pensions can already be searched through consolidated systems, but virtual assets are excluded. As a result, heirs must contact individual exchanges one by one to determine whether the deceased held digital assets.
The National Assembly Legislative Expo, hosted by the National Assembly Secretariat, is an event that gathers public and corporate feedback on institutional difficulties and discusses ways to improve legislation and policy. At its booth, Dunamu will introduce its proposed inheritance-system changes, along with key services including Upbit and Giwa and its investor-protection efforts.
A Dunamu official said digital assets remain in a blind spot for institutional protection during the inheritance process even though they are valuable assets held by many people. The company hopes the proposal will help lay the groundwork for a system that protects the deceased’s assets safely and makes it easier and more convenient for heirs to locate them.
