National Assembly Plenary Session, Decision on Request for Lifting Emergency Martial Law

The decision on the request for lifting emergency martial law has been made.

On the 4th, 190 members of the National Assembly who attended the plenary session unanimously agreed on the decision to request the lifting of emergency martial law. The Speaker of the National Assembly stated, "As a result, the martial law order cannot be effectively implemented."

According to Article 77, Clause 5 of the Constitution, if the National Assembly requests the lifting of martial law through a plenary session with more than half of the members' consent, the President must lift it. However, President Yoon Seok-yeol did not announce the lifting of the emergency martial law.

On this day, Park Chan-dae, the representative of the Democratic Party, stated, "The emergency martial law order is immediately invalid. The President should lift the emergency martial law immediately." Han Dong-hoon, the representative of the People's Power, also expressed "deep regret as the representative of the ruling party" and stated, "The martial law order has lost its effect. From now on, military and police public power actions are illegal."
