Han Dong-hoon to Hold Press Conference Today… Expected to Resign as Leader

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, will hold a press conference at the National Assembly on the 16th. It is expected that he will express his intention to resign as the leadership centered around him has effectively 'collapsed'.

Han will hold the press conference at 10:30 AM at the National Assembly. If he announces his resignation at this event, it will be 146 days since he was elected as the leader at the party convention on July 23.

Previously, Han had been under pressure to resign from within the party after the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-youl was passed at the National Assembly on the 14th. Han had dismissed such demands, stating he would "continue to perform his duties."

However, with all five elected top committee members, including Jang Dong-hyuk and Jin Jong-oh, who are considered close to Han, expressing their intention to resign, the party leadership has effectively collapsed. This has led to analysis that he has decided to resign.

If Han resigns, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader close to Yoon Seok-youl, will take over as acting party leader and lead the party.
