  • Upbit has warned of potential damage from cyber fraud involving impersonation of employees.
  • Impersonators have been found to entice investors under the guise of providing virtual asset listing information.
  • Upbit announced plans to take strong actions, including legal measures, against fraud related to impersonating employees.

Dunamu, the operator of the domestic virtual asset (cryptocurrency) exchange Upbit, announced on the 22nd that users should be cautious of cyber fraud involving impersonation of Upbit employees.

According to a case disclosed by Upbit, a recent impersonator posted a manipulated employee ID on social media services (SNS), approaching a large number of people under the pretext of helping them design a business model.

There are also cases where they entice people by offering virtual asset listing information. Another attacker impersonating a current Upbit employee is distributing a PDF file claiming to reveal 10 virtual assets that Upbit will list during a specific period. The impersonator manipulates content to make it appear as if a private messenger conversation has been leaked, encouraging the purchase of specific virtual assets, which requires special caution.

Upbit stated, "All information related to trading support is only provided through Upbit announcements. Employees do not directly inform about future trading support through KakaoTalk chat rooms or other means," adding, "Even if someone quotes an Upbit representative, it may be unverified information, so users should be aware to avoid any damage to their assets."

Meanwhile, Upbit is accepting reports through its website to prevent fraud related to impersonating employees. Upbit users can report by selecting the 'Report Impersonation of Upbit Employees/Agents' item under the '1:1 Inquiry' tab in the Upbit Customer Center.

Additionally, suspicious investment fraud cases can be reported through the police, the Financial Supervisory Service, and the Cybercrime Reporting Portal. Upbit plans to take strong actions, including legal measures, against confirmed fraud cases reported.
