President Donald Trump stated on the 27th (local time) that the release of a more competitive chatbot by China's AI startup DeepSeek compared to America's big tech should serve as a "wake-up call for American industry."
In a speech at the Republican Federal House Conference held at his golf club in Florida, President Trump said, "Some Chinese companies want to develop faster and much cheaper AI methods. It's a good thing because it means you don't have to spend a lot of money," he said.
He continued, "I see it as a positive thing and an asset. If it (DeepSeek's AI development) is really true and genuine, I think positively," emphasizing, "because you can do it too. It means you can achieve the same results without spending a lot of money."
President Trump also said, "Instead of spending billions of dollars, you will spend less, and I hope to find the same solutions under the Trump administration."
He added, "Last week, I signed an executive order to repeal Joe Biden's destructive AI regulations. This allows AI companies to focus on becoming the best once again," adding, "We will dominate the future in unprecedented ways by leveraging tech companies to the fullest."
