Summary

  • OpenAI announced that it will release its latest AI model GPT-4.5 within weeks.
  • CEO Sam Altman revealed plans to integrate general models with chain-of-thought models and simplify the product lineup.
  • The new GPT-5 model will integrate various technologies and will be implemented in both ChatGPT and API.

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, will release its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model within weeks.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced on the 12th (local time) via X that "We plan to release GPT-4.5, internally known as 'Orion'," adding that "this will be our last non-chain-of-thought model." A non-chain-of-thought model is where AI generates answers without explicit intermediate steps. When asked about the release timeline, CEO Altman replied "within weeks."

OpenAI plans to integrate general models with chain-of-thought models. CEO Altman stated, "We recognize that our current models and products have become too complex," and "our top priority is to integrate the 'o' series and GPT series models." The 'o' series is OpenAI's chain-of-thought AI model. Altman added, "We plan to simplify our product lineup going forward."

The integrated AI model is expected to be released within months. CEO Altman said, "We also plan to release GPT-5 for both ChatGPT and API," explaining that "GPT-5 will integrate various technologies including 'o3'."

Meanwhile, OpenAI's next AI model release was originally expected last year. However, the delay has led to speculation about whether AI technology development has reached its limits.
