Summary

  • President Trump announced he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin by the end of this month for peace negotiations.
  • Trump expressed confidence in his ability to end the Ukraine war and stated he has gained more confidence in negotiations.
  • He said he would not oppose if Europe wants to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.

President Donald Trump said on the 18th (local time) that he "will probably meet" with Russian President Vladimir Putin within this month to discuss peace negotiations.

According to Reuters and AFP, when asked at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida what he would say to Ukrainians who feel 'betrayed,' Trump responded, "It's very disappointing. I heard they were angry about not having a seat at the table," and made the above statement.

He pointed out that "They had their seat for three years. And they had their position long before that," suggesting that the issue could have been resolved much earlier.

Trump said, "Ukraine wants a seat at the table," and criticized that "if it had been resolved well early on, people wouldn't have had to say there haven't been elections for too long." He also questioned, "Where is all the money that went to Ukraine?"

Trump said he wouldn't oppose if Europe wants to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine. He stated, "It would be fine to send troops there. I wouldn't oppose it at all."

Trump also reiterated his confidence in ending the Ukraine war. After the US-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia today, he said he has "much more confidence" in negotiations with Russia and added, "I think I have the power to end this war."
