Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan emphasized that Hong Kong will advance as a 'blockchain hub' leading Web3 innovation.

Secretary Chan stated during his opening keynote speech at 'Consensus Hong Kong 2025' held at the Hong Kong Convention Center (HKCEC) on the 19th (local time) that "interesting developments in the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain are creating new applications and opportunities."

He announced that Hong Kong will become a center for AI-blockchain innovation. Secretary Chan emphasized, "Hong Kong has advanced financial infrastructure and a robust regulatory environment. We have already conducted tokenized green bond issuance in 2023 and multi-currency issuance last year, and we will continue to strengthen AI and Web3 convergence innovation in various sectors."

He added, "Hong Kong will maintain sustainable development, responsible innovation, and a balanced, future-oriented regulatory approach to become a balanced market for innovators and businesses, serving as a hub connecting traditional and digital finance."

He also mentioned plans to continue Web3 infrastructure and talent development. Secretary Chan said, "We are making large-scale investments in Web3 infrastructure and talent development. Hong Kong's prestigious universities and industries are nurturing next-generation blockchain experts through partnerships, and we are attracting world-class experts to Hong Kong to make it a center for technological advancement."
