The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed that the North Korean hacking group Lazarus stole approximately $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum (ETH) from global cryptocurrency exchange Bybit.
On the 26th (local time), the FBI stated through an official announcement that "North Korea stole a large amount of cryptocurrency through the Bybit hack around the 21st" and explained that "the attack is related to North Korea's malicious cyber activity named 'TraderTraitor'."
According to the FBI, the hackers have converted some of the stolen cryptocurrency into Bitcoin and other currencies, and are attempting to launder the funds by dispersing them across thousands of blockchain addresses. Authorities believe there is a high possibility that these funds will eventually be converted into fiat currency after additional laundering processes.
